Friendship Wanted

How do you like the idea of being God's friend? Well, that is exactly what He wants from us--friendship. There are ideas floating around that God requires blind servitude but thank goodness we know better! The words of Christ Himself in John 15:15 describe a Father who wants nothing more than our trust and an obedience that springs from a desire to do right because it is right, not just because He said so, "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."
Trusted friends know each other's business and even then, still love each other unconditionally. A servant only does what his master asks - no questions, no inquiry as to why it should be done the way it is done. But a friend asks a friend many questions and is met with gracious and sincere answers. The only servitude God requires is that of serving your brothers and sisters with complete love. If you want a friend, be a friend; if you want joy, give joy; if you want to be heard, be a good listener; if you want to be healed, be a healer.
What kind of friend are you? - S.N. Belmonte 2010
